3rd party bank
« on: December 20, 2007, 09:16:46 PM »

Perhaps instead of having an alliance bank that a lot of people seem to dislike, we could have a third party bank.  Not only could this be benificial to indies it would also help allys.  This is how the bank would work.  One person would have to open an account.  This could be the leader of an ally or anyone else.  Then they could allow/disallow access to the account.  So ally's would have to pay a little extra for their bank.  Anyone could open an account a indy or a small group of alliance members in the same gal.  I think that this would make some people happy???

I think that was a paragraph that didn't make a whole lot of sense.

Simply stated, put an interest rate on the metal and energy you haven't spent. You'd have to balance ships / money.. with lowered ETA, you'd be risking not being able to build ships in time.

The bank would be separate from your unspent cash.  Some times that is worth the risk

Yeah, lets get rid of it, doing anything that's challenging isn't worth it.

but seriously, how would you be not able to build ships in time, couldnt you just withdraw the money and then build ships?

if this was put in, there would have to be a way to stop that, like if someone is attacking you so you cant just surprise them.
like either a time delay, or make a scan where you can scan their bank

What?

attack ETA's are going to be 2-3-4 as it stands now. You'd have to be online either the moment the person attacked, or the tick after if you wanted to build any ships

Well, there could be an obligatory deposit duration, like you commit the money to this "Universal Bank" for 24 ticks and then get 15% interest, or something like that. So you couldn't withdraw whenever you wanted (or were attacked) and would have to make longer term decisions.

That's a problem of online activity, not another bank question. I can still see this being a problem, just because you have to allow/disallow everyone in the CW community from going into your bank. :[

Even if it were automatic disallow, it'd be a pain to add 29+ people into the allow section.

It would be a good thing you could easily regain the pop and not have to worry about losing interest on you bank roll

We already have this. Its called the Alliance bank. Why don't you just allow people into your alliance that you can trust.

its not a matter of not trusting people in your alliance, its a matter of people not being in an alliance

and most alliances dont let everyone withdraw, not because they dont trust them, because everyone would take out 100,000 m/e, and when you have 30 people doing that, and some doing more, your bank shrinks very quickly

How does the alliance bank work now, can you just make payments to non-accessing members? (As opposed to giving them unlimited withdrawal rights à la Boka's post.)

If we had a third party or universal bank, everybody could simply have an account and be able to make payments to whomever they wish from that account. This would sidestep the problems of who gets access and when. This way you could easily have M/E transactions with other indies or among galaxy mates (as Hungryfat had in mind). An extra level of coop in the game, below alliances proper.

Now there's no way for indies to reward or bribe somebody else, and there should be.

Then you could also implement what I proposed earlier: bank interest only in exchange for committing a deposit for say 12 or 24 ticks, which would enforce longer term financial planning (so the bank would have a distinct meaning and not be just an appendix to your regular resource collection).

A potentially related question: does the price of starting an alliance go into the bank or does it just vanish down a black hole?

surely worrying about people abusing the bank is a case of not trusting them?  :-\

yes, but i wouldnt consider 100,000 m/e abusing the bank, maybe you would, but in my opinion it isnt
