$$$ to play CW?
« on: September 21, 2007, 09:17:58 PM »

Will there come a day when there are some extra features in the game that we are able to subscribe for?  I for one would be more than willing to drop $5 - $10 a round to have some extra special advantage over my enemies.  That way the game gets support - Winawer is an awesome admin & coder for the game and I would think it would be a good thing to support him for his time he's put into this wonderful addicting game.  ;)

Any ideas for extra features to be available?  5%-10% extra income?  Boost in permanent pop?  An Extra group to attack / defend with?  Technology lvl 6 for offense & defense?

What does everyone think?

I remember there was something like that in the last round.

I don't like paying for extras, but wouldn't really mind if others did.

Well I could pay like 1 euro per round, if everyone did that then Winawer would make an extra 500 euros per 3 months on top of whatever he earns now.

If u lower the price the demand will rise i.e. more people will be willing to pay and u could have a higher profit.

Package:
- one more tech that u can research till lvl 5
- maybe some fancier or more ergonomical view or something like that
- one more group

(not sure about the last one one would be a little unfair, if the whole package cost 1 or 2 euros, I think it would be very popular)

Yeah it the fourth age (wiki terms not mine) alot of players donated including myself a few times because there were threats that the game would go down because they couldn't afford the hosting, then pyro nicked the money (or so i heard) and the game went to pot.

Dux sorts the hosting out for the game and thats is free from what i remember, could be wrong though.

As much as i think win deserves cash for what he does, he probably won't take it so everyone should just send it to his email anyway through paypal.

Hmmm I was thinking about this before. Prowl suggested that it gives you access to M:E exchange (which happens immediately) instead of fixing your rate and waiting ages...

Something like a $US5-10 basic upgrade, and maybe a more expensive premium upgrade would be do-able. Winawer said it would be upto Duxor, since he owns the game.

Ah, I would love something like this.

Supporter Bonuses ($20)
Instant 50,000,000 Metal and Energy
Instant 25,000 Random Ships
Instant 200 Rocks of any type.
Instant 20% increase (20% of initial capacity) in your Metal and Energy
4 Days worth of power to your Merlin's Planetary Dimensional Shifting Device (MPDSD) that can protect planets from attack.)
Includes Protected Planets Treaty bonus.

Ability to transfer ingame resources to other players.
NOTE: You cannot transfer to any players who have logged in from your internet location / IP

You will be marked as {Supporter Status} (visible to you only) and this marking, and the ongoing benefits (ability to transfer resources) will never go away - even if the round is reset.

Infusion Bonus ($10)
For $10 you can apply to the Protected Planet Treaty Board.
Includes 5 Days worth of power to your Merlins Planetary Dimensional Shifting Device (MPDSD) that can protect planets from attack.

48 Hours of Protection from all Attack and Sabotage UNLESS you attack, spy or sabotage another player, which cancels your protection immediately.
After 48 hours, your application ends, and you will NOT continue to be protected. (The board never accepts anybody anymore....)

Ultimate Supporter Bonuses ($50)
Includes everything in the Supporter Bonus, times 2.

NOTE: The above can be edited if it is too much for bonuses.

Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!!

StarGate Wars... gah... the world's most retarded game. Don't copy crap from them :P

Trading and buy-able protection is okay in SGW, because it NEVER resets. But it doesn't work in (resetting) tick-games, like CW, for fairly obvious reasons.

I have never liked the whole Idea of being able to buy upgrades with real cash.  Honestly its gay.  Pretty much the richest guy wins.  Mabey its just me but I like an equal playing feild.  I think this falls in the catagory of buying your way to victory.  Stick with pay to play or donations.

On a side note; posibly your first round playing is free after that there is a fee. Mabey there is no way to moneter that , I leave that to Win.

I also hate paying for certain upgrades.  I completely agree, the richest does win.  I am a highschool student so I don't have the disposable income to spend on a game for upgrades.  I hate all games that charge for upgrades or bonuses.  It takes away the best aspect of the game -It's just a game-  If you take that away it loses all its appeal and no one wants to play anymore because now there is money invested in your account.  It is now beyond a game and all the arguments that we have now will become more frequent and far nastier.  Hey but thats just my two cents.

I have to agree with those two guys.  I don't like the idea of people paying for extras.  I mean, I can understand why some people would want to, but I think it is very unfair for the people who can't pay or it would strain them to do so.  And if you are unable to do it, and you see all these guys around you with all these bonuses because they've got cash to burn.  And then that causes you to be at a -serious- disadvantage to those people.  I just am against it in principle.  Sorry to be a nag, guys.

No one is  talking about making it P2P (I'd rather play PA, then lol). We're talking about giving people some incentive to contribute to the game (monetary-wise), to 1. Help with running costs (server, etc...) 2. Maybe make it more worthwhile for the admins.

What won't happen is... continuous upgrades (e.g. 10 upgrades in a row). So it won't be a case "richest guy winning" as it won't be *that* much of an advantage. But true, paid members will have an advantage or some things will become easier for them.

Personally, I'm for upgraded accounts, but I'm also for allowing non-paying members to get an upgrade via other means like collecting points (e.g. for bringing genuine new long-term players in - not from their own IP, voting for CW on gaming sites, etc...).

And we can make sure the upgraded features won't give a distinct advantage. E.g. a M:E exchange isn't so much of an advantage as non-paid can still do it, it just takes longer.

imo  premium acc should make the road to victroy somewhat easier, but it should not be the only way!

premium acc should have extra's like :
no 1 tick retrun delay if ships are launched and recalled in the same tick
they get 2 votes instead of 1
and stuff like that

The instant return for recalled ships that haven't gone a full tick out is still overpowered.
I like the M:E exchange, back in the day, the rates shifted based on how much each resource was exchanged for the other.
Kinda like a stock market... It's a two edged sword if you go 100% metal or energy. The rates could lower before you exchange, or you could just lose resources on a low rate you weren't expecting.

Premium accounts used to have bonuses but they didn't effect the game play, the inbox used to have a limit to the number of messages but the premium account got rid of that. And the number of stored scans increased from 3 I believe.

There was also a link voting system where when you voted for cw in a game list site you'd get a small amount of resources.

Prehaps we could have a weekly lottery?? Where everyone who donates X amount has a chance to win XXXXXXXXX amount of resources depending on the number of entrants.

if it was like, 5$ for 200 instant rocks, then you could literally buy the win....

upgrades is a very grey area imo

if the game needs it to stay alive then sure, implement a small fee for small bonusses. if its just for the sake of it then it could lead to a decline in a memberbase which isnt 100% stable in the first place. i used to pay £3/4 a round to upgrade my starsphere account. i did this as it was a highly competitive game (a reason why it actually worked), and i (like many others) really enjoyed the game and thought it worth paying a small fee for.

there are certain things in p2p im 100% against such as: buying resources, buying roids. imo it should be small but worthwhile advantages like -1 eta, extra fleet slot (maybe a bit too much)....cant think of any others  :P ummm, reading through previous posts, maybe a M:E exchange only for those with upgraded accounts would be nice. i dunno

personally i dont think i would upgrade my account currently, maybe in a few rounds time if the game continues to improve. please no flaming for this...i am merely a poor student who needs to buy beer  :(
