I'll get in there before anyone else suggests it. A barrier arround your planet to prevent pop being stolen. They could consume more resources than you gain per tick so it would be impossible to maintain all the time and consume more resources if the sheild is being attacked by an enemy. Prehaps then there would be more point to an attack lasting for more than one tick.

Prehaps they could even destroy your own returning ships if they are up when they arrive. That way an enemy could have the chance to sneak in with the returning ships with the shield being down.

That's pretty damn interesting, actually.

Very, would add a little more strategy to the game, and make my head hurt from trying to calculate the right timing to send forces. Not exactly a mathematical genius here.

If turrets were to be made they should be able to hide like a fleet can. but maybe it would take a tick for them to come out of hiding or something. also if shields were to be used, they shouldnt be too strong, maybe a good shield would reduce your attackers attack and defence by one per ship. Or maybe only a certain percentage of ships can get through. idk, shields seem interesting but powerful. maybe they should only be able to be activated for like 2 ticks due to the excessive strain on the batteries that run them. Or need some sort of charge up time.

If you want to keep it simple, shields could work like a ship without any firepower, basically just drawing enemy fire in a battle. Just a thought.

Even if it's complex, if it's well planned and thought out, it's easy to code. Basically, the more you guys do of the planning work, the easier and more likely it is for us to implement a suggested game improvement.

I will help out with the planning part then.  :D

I agree, you could have something like a shield ship (or shield). It would be easier to keep it in units whatever you decide to call it. So you produce 1000 units of shield/shield ships. They would draw the enemy fire. It would be better to have maybe 2 kinds of ships or shield. The other one being an advanced shield/shield ship drawing the fire of Nems and Lurkers. Would actually make Nems and Lurkers more useful in the game. Obviously these should be more expensive then the standard shield/shield ships.

I would call them more like dummy ships then... just large pieces of cardboard cut out ships floating in space...

interesting.
I like this idea, but depending on the attack system, I don't think they should be coded as ships.

A Shield which can be developed, but uses up ~ 50% of your income when on. (and ALL energy, so if you're producing more than 50% metal you will run out of energy and it will switch off.)

and when attacked it uses up energy when ships attack. (so you can overpower an enemy shield if you attack enough, possibly with ships fighting normally outside the shield... I don't know how resource stealing is currently calculated, but you would basically be paying energy to stop your roids being... em... roided.).

Anyway, that's my take on the idea.

i definitely liek that because as of right now any thing above punishers is basically useless i wish better ships that cost more could have more usefulness than just having more attack power
